Planning a Milestone Birthday - My 30th Birthday Masquerade Ball

It's been a while since I've written a blog. The holiday season soon rolled into birthday season for the Rodriguez family. Do any of you readers have a month to three months where it seems like everyone's birthdays are just back-to-back? It can be stressful at times, especially if you're planning party after party like we did this year!

February was a special birthday for me this year as it was my 30th! Turning thirty had me feeling all sorts of different emotions. I was sad because it was once a number that I viewed as "old" (you couldn't even come close to convincing me that it's "old" NOW!). Because I was really dreading this birthday, my husband and I decided to make it a happy time by celebrating it in a big way. We threw a party! It wasn't just any party - it was a black-tie Masquerade Ball! I quickly became a part of the planning process; big surprise, right? What party planner is going to let you plan a party for them and just sit back and do nothing? Not this party planning lady! I immediately began looking into venues and budgeting. I wanted this to be a party I would remember for the rest of my life! Let me tell you something - even though I was planning it all, I was not disappointed in the slightest bit! My friends and family all showed up looking their best and we danced the night away (not to mention the amazing dinner that was served).

Below is a quick video to show you the venue after we decorated. It was recorded just as people began arriving (which is why you don't see anyone really sitting in their seats yet). If you'd like to see more photos of this event please visit my photo gallery.

During the planning process, I had a difficult time figuring out how to plan such an event, as I had never attended a black-tie event of any kind, or even a masquerade formal party. This was a big, and special birthday and I wanted it to be ceremonial in a sense. If you're looking to plan a big birthday like this one, and you're not sure where to start or what the layout of the evening should be, then you've come to the right place! Below, you'll see that I have bullet pointed the layout of our evening for my 30th Birthday Masquerade Ball. I hope it helps you!

-We greeted our guests as they arrived and asked them to take a Polaroid snapshot with their masks on, then place it in the guest book and write their well wishes for the guest of honor.

-If guests didn't have a mask they could borrow one that we had on a nearby table

-When everyone had arrived we opened the night with a welcome speech from someone close to us

-My husband gave a speech, honoring yours truly

-We opened up the dance floor with a slow song from 1988 (the year I was born) and then the DJ asked all couples to join us on the dance floor for the 2nd half of the song.

-The DJ had a list of songs I picked from 1988 that were played during the dinner hour

-We ate dinner

-We danced

-Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" and then we ate cake and ice cream

-We closed out the night with a heart-felt thank you on the microphone from the guest of honor

-Then we danced until the end of the evening

It really, truly was a magical night and I felt so blessed by all those that showed up. I hope that if you're planning something similar, that this layout of the evening helped you and I pray that you have a fantastic night and feel just as special as I did for my 30th Birthday Masquerade Ball!

Please feel free to leave comments or message me if you have any questions! Thanks for reading and good luck with your planning!
